I loved this piece and have shared it with my students. This is a great series. I remember hearing something once attributed to Einstein (why is so much collective wisdom attributed to Einstein?) that everyone needs two jobs — one connected to God and one connected to bread. You need a roof over your head and a vocation — and they shouldn’t necessarily be connected. I read a lovely essay by Natalia Ginzberg in her recently reissued collection about writing as a vocation, and I think treating our writing like that — a lifelong relationship with its many ups and downs — is much more a reflection of what that work means.
